Crowd managed TV production

Posted by dadpreneur on January 28, 2008

My original career was as a TV producer, so I’m pretty intrigued by this idea.  Have You Got The Nerve aims to be a new type of TV production company: one that’s created, lead and inspired by a group of 3,000 executive producers. Fusing the collaborative power of the internet and the enduring mass appeal of television, Nerve will take on three genres: documentary, drama and entertainment. Content will be made both for TV and online viewing. Read the rest of this entry »

Do you Facebook?

Posted by dadpreneur on January 24, 2008

Personally, I don’t.  My problem is that I just don’t have the time or inclination to spend as much time on it as I would need to to justify it’s use.  (did that even make sense?)  Obviously, it’s bigger then me though (hard to believe I know) so if you do use Facebook, here’s a link to a bunch of ideas that might help you make money while you do.    Click here.

Business Idea of the Day

Posted by dadpreneur on January 24, 2008

What about this one?  Eco starter kits.  Like other gift basket ideas, but with a green twist.  Instead of including cookies, cheese or fruit, these starter kits contain a number of green products, like long life lightbulbs, reusable water bottles and grocery bags and earth-friendly cleaning products.   What I like about this one is it could be small (just sell them in your own city) or big (you can definitely see this as a business with major franchise opportunities).

What’s a Dad to do?

Posted by dadpreneur on January 17, 2008

There’s a very amusing post over in Blogfathers about how you react when you meet a new dad (or mom) at the playground and everyone hits it off.  You swap numbers – but never hear from them again.

12 scallops, on the half shell

Remove the scallops from the shells and set aside. Wash and dry the shells and set aside. Heat the butter in a large frying pan over medium heat until melted. Add the garlic and scallops and cook for 1 minute each side or until cooked through. Remove the pan from the heat and add the lemon juice, salt and pepper. Place the scallops back in their shells and spoon over the pan juices. Top with the watercress to serve. Serves 4.

Do you VOIP?

Posted by dadpreneur on January 16, 2008

If so, this site might be helpful.  The site offers rates and customer reviews for roughly 1400 VoIP services around the world, and can display and sort calling rates between nearly any two countries.

Is your ‘home office’ a cramped corner of the bedroom? Is your office desk the dining room table? If so, this nifty thing might be for you. It’s a portable work station on wheels, so you can move it anywhere in the house, It’s got a bunch of drawers and a foldout laptop stand with mousepad extensio. Could be perfect for those dadpreneurs who live in small spaces. More details here (but no prices though)

What do you get the new parents that have everything?

Posted by dadpreneur on January 16, 2008

What about this?

dakigo_sakumi.jpg

It’s a baby-shaped bag of rice with the kids name and vital statistics from it. According to the blog where I found it (here) , it’s sent to everyone on your birth announcement list. I kind of like the idea of sending it to new parents though.

I hate the Wiggles

Posted by dadpreneur on January 14, 2008

wiggles301106_wideweb__470x2990.jpg

I really do.  I feel somewhat un-Australian for saying so, but I just find them so inane, it makes me crazy.  Don’t get me wrong – I like a lot of kids TV, but the Wiggles just drive me nuts.  From the cheap sets, the bad lip syncing and the stupid plots  – it just offends me both as a  TV producer and a parent.

Unfortunately though, our son is addicted to them.

Take the one he’s watching at the moment – “Santa’s Rockin.”  For some reason only known to them, it guest stars a bunch of complete has-beens…..from Barry Williams (Greg on the Brady Bunch) to Ross Wilson (singer from a 70s Australian  band) to John Fogerty.  WTF?  I just don’t get why they’ve included these guys.

Like I said though, unfortunately our son is addicted to them…..which means that every time we rent one of their DVDs, or buy one of the puzzles, we’re encouraging them to make more.  *sigh*

For the record, I really like the following kids TV – Play School (an Australian staple), Little Einsteins and Thomas the Tank Engine.

What about you?  What kids TV really gets your blood boiling?  Also, am I wrong about the Wiggles?
